Chipped Tooth Repair

A chipped tooth is urgent and needs general dental treatment quickly. So, whether your kid chipped a tooth in a soccer match or you chipped your own by chomping on hard candy, it is very important to get in as soon as possible for a repair. A chipped tooth can lead to further damage, tooth decay or total tooth loss, simply from bacteria. The chip becomes a crack by which bacteria can enter the source of the fracture. To prevent more serious damage, it must be repaired with a filling or tooth bonding. If it is caught in time, the filling or tooth bonding strengthens the structure of the tooth.

Otherwise, the chip becomes a broken or cracked tooth. Even more serious is if the crack spreads beneath the gum line. A crack beneath the gum line is quickly filled with bacteria, and the gum may become infected, leading to cavities and possibly periodontal disease. Cracked or broken teeth can be repaired with inlays, onlays and crowns. Inlays and onlays are for teeth not quite yet to the point of needing a crown.

Repairs to Cracked or Broken Teeth

At South Blvd Dentistry, we do not want it to get to that point. Infections of cracked and broken teeth are painful and the repairs can be very expensive. While these repairs may be partially covered by your dental insurance, most insurance covers a filling for a chipped tooth. Call today, before extensive dental work is required.

Our office is open for same day, emergency dentistry Monday through Friday, as well as by appointment on Saturday. You may not be experiencing pain, but it is a good idea to get it checked, cleaned and filled by the gentle hands of our dental hygiene assistant and dentist. We will put your worries at ease. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.
